"I bought it to use in my work, I loved it is a very strong knife, I love the combination of tools and the very useful scissors in this tool. "The Leatherman K4 is a good overall carry tool. The handle is shaped in such a way as to allow the knife to be easily opened and used, while also allowing the tools to be extracted from and returned to the butt single handedly. If the T2/4 series makes the knife feel like an afterthought, the K series is built around bringing a large blade to bear. Having said that this tool was built around the blade, I find the other tools to be the real stars of this assembly. The scissors are effective, though mine often stick closed when initially deployed, and aren't the absolute best multitool scissors I've seen. They can cut a zip tie if pressed. The awl is a tool I've always disregarded on pocket knives, but the awl on this knife has won me over. It drills with ease through materials that it is unsafe to dig a knife blade into. It was putting a hole in a pop bottle cap with ease that most surprised me. The Phillips head/bottle opener Is sufficient. It does better than many flat form Phillips heads do, but won't beat a true Phillips head. The flathead/box opener is a robust prying head, and the box opener unsheathes Romex with authority. Locks on the tools and knife are the same style, and appear both elegantly simple and robust. I tested the lock on the screw driver with as much force as I felt was safe, and it did not fail. I would be interested in seeing data on how strong this lock is. The aluminum scales are durable, and tapered to fit the hand well when cutting. Now, the knife blade. The blade is effective. It's big. For a knife I'm going to carry in situations where I don't have access to a screwdriver, scissors, or a drill, the K4 is big. To accommodate the blade, the entire tool takes up a fair bit of space in the pocket, (far more than the old Crater C33T that also had a flathead and Phillips) and has a large enough blade to draw eyebrows in polite company. When I was a teenager I loved blades this size, but as an adult, I've grown to appreciate a shorter blade profile. I am considering shortening this knife blade. Only the inability to buy a replacement blades as prevented me trying my hand at a modification. Overall, I like the K4, though I feel a bit of shortening would make it more practical."
"I’ve had my Free K4 since it debuted, and it usually one of my go-to knives for medium to heavy duty tasks. It holds an edge pretty well, it is easy to sharpen, and thus far has required little to no maintenance!"

"I bought the Leatherman Free K4 with pretty mild expectations. With that said, a couple months later, after carrying it almost exclusively, I can honestly say it’s one of the best all in one options on the market. The Free K4 grows on you rather quickly. I found myself searching for something that would really fit my EDC needs, because a knife alone just doesn’t do the job. I realized that during my day to day a knife is something that I needed about 30-40 percent of the time, the other 60-70 percent of the time I need a screwdriver, scissors, pry bar, or one of the other tools conveniently located on the Free K4. The implements being all constructed from 420HC works out good, because if you’re like me, you have invested in sharpening supplies and taught yourself the art. I can take the blade and run it over my ceramic hone and then hit it on the leather strop and it’s right back to hair popping sharp in just a few minutes. If you spend 5-10 minutes every couple of weeks and touch the blade up it will last you a long time. The biggest complaint I see is the weight but that doesn’t make sense to me. People will carry a full size multi tool without hesitation but expect a knife with a whole cash of tools on the back side of it to be a feather. If you want options then you compromise on weight. It’s still only 5.5oz and is more than manageable. The Free K4 is what I carry full time now and it has retired a drawer full of knives from Benchmade, Spyderco, Hogue, and many more. I highly recommend this product to the guy or gal that has come to the realization that a knife alone doesn’t really meet your needs."

"I never write product reviews. However, this tool has come in handy more times than I can remember. All tools are handy, no unnecessary ones are taking up space. My only three improvements on this design would be: - Better knife steel. 420HC is decent and gets the job done, but I have to touch up the blade quite a bit. - Add tweezers. - Pocket clip has a tendency to get in the way. Never created too big of a hotspot, but I could see how some would complain."

"The pocket clip is troubling, the knife sits in my pocket most of the time, and the clip has broke, snapped off 2 times in 2 years. I don't work in an extreme environment. I'm a cook, I work in a kitchen, I just feel it should hold up better."
"Great size, weight, and feel. Perfect width. Bit of a hassle getting the mini tools out at first, but they wear in. Biggest drawback is the blade— didn’t come very sharp, and the edge doesn’t hold very long. Other than that I love it."
