The Curl by Leatherman is a versatile and affordable tool with a perfect size blade, appreciated design, and a range of functional tools. However, opinions vary on the wire cutters and cross cut file, and some customers have mixed feelings about the Leatherman brand.

"In general very pleasedd with the Leatherman Curl. Sharp knife and has bit holder which is great. Went with this model as it also has a quality file. Areas for improvement the sciccors is a little bit weedy particularly in comparison to a victorianox one and the pocket clip although very useful the position means the tool can open in your pocket."
"Leatherman is a go to for any little job. I carry mine all the time. Well made. Solid. Reliable. It is a thing of beauty too, the design is timeless. I love it ! It is something I never leave behind, this tool is a superb thing, which I feel undressed without. Excellent. You won't be dissapointed."

"I’m a long time Wave owner—it’s been on my hip everyday at work and during projects on weekends for 15+ years. I’ve owned and/or bought as gifts over a dozen leathermans since my first one in ‘94. I’ve purchased 2 revs, a skeletool, a T4, and a bolster in the last couple years looking for the pocketable tool I wanted to carry after hours. Happy to say I’ve finally found it with the Curl. Same dimensions as the (original) Wave that I love with tools I use most—easy open blade, tool changer, pliers, and scissors. Only improvements I’d ask for is the prytool/package opener or Philips/bottle opener (both on the T4) instead of the awl. As pocketable as the bolster/rev but better in every way."
"I have been always been the type to only carry a knife. I wanted to give a EDC multitool a shot to see how I would like it so I began researching Leatherman tools. The Curl is the perfect goldilocks of capability and weight. It is more capable than the Skeletool with not much more weight. The Wave is a great tool but more than I need on a daily basis. I honestly believe this tool has converted me to a full time Leatherman everyday carry user! I hope Leatherman keeps this in the line up for many years and hopefully make some variations in the future. Thank you Leatherman tools!"
"Got this because it is at the time of writing the smallest Leatherman with the bit driver that you can use with the tool closed up. I don't like having to use it when it's fully or even partially opened. While the tools don't exactly lock, they feel very sturdy and I never feel in danger of collapsing them. Because they don't have the replaceable wire cutters, you get more room in your pliers, so it's almost like having what you would have with a bigger tool. Regarding the bit driver, I'm glad it came with a bit that is one side straight and the other Phillips."
"I am a huge fan of all things Leatherman, but recent experiences have made me hesitant to continue supporting them until quality control and warranty services improve. I purchased the Curl on April 19 of this year directly from Leatherman. I was immediately impressed with the toolset, ergonomics, and overall form factor of the tool. It immediately became my EDC and did very well in that role…for about 2 weeks. After casual use (certainly nothing even close to abusive), the pivot screws for the knife began rotating with the blade; eventually, the opening and closing of the knife actually tightened the pivot so much that the knife got seized in the open position after using it to break down some cardboard boxes. This was obviously a dangerous scenario, and I had to use a non-marring hammer to get the blade unstuck; this then loosened the pivot screw so much that the blade was wobbling side to side on the pivot pin. Furthermore, the knife-side handle was extremely loose and barely locked into place when the pliers were deployed (to the point where the pressure from actuating the pliers would cause the handle to collapse). While this was extremely disappointing, I decided to just start the warranty repair process and let Leatherman get the tool back in working order. To their credit, upon receiving the tool back from me, they were very quick to perform the warranty repair. However, they only fixed the knife issue and did absolutely nothing to fix the handle. I am already out an additional $6 in shipping just to get the knife to work properly, and now it is going to cost me another $6 to correct manufacturing issues in a tool that has been in my possession for less than a month. I am not quick to judge or write off a company for a rare slip in quality control, but I have witnessed the knife tightening/loosening issue in a Skeletool CX that my brother bought just a few weeks ago. Regarding warranty repairs, I also had to send in a Free P4 twice to get the pliers fixed correctly. If you are interested in buying a Curl (or any Leatherman tool), just beware that there is a definite lack in consistency when it comes to quality and reliability."
